Listed Green® has one goal in mind - being the best Green MLS (multiple listing service) to showcase new green homes for sale from seller's of all types - builders, developers, realtors and eco-friendly homeowners.
In order to be the best and the greenest, Listed Green has chosen to review each listing before it is listed. This extra effort eliminates "greenwashing" - a term used when someone utilizes "green" verbiage (i.e. "solar", "eco-friendly", "conservation", etc.) to drive extra attention to a traditionally built home or housing development.
Listed Green promotes numerous National Green Building Certification Programs and Certified Green Home Builders that are truly making a difference in the green, energy efficient housing marketplace. Additionally, Listed Green helps educate the home buyer - who may have little or no idea what "green" living means and what effect it can really have in their overall "carbon footprint" on the environment.
Listed Green Homes has also considered the reality that people with a lot of money tend to build bigger homes. With that fact in mind, Listed Green has decided to review these larger homes with a tougher requirement; that they have an "extensive" list of green components worth considering. Maybe solar power, solar thermal hot water, water saving devices throughout, recycled materials and hopefully
LEED for Homes certified or some local green building certification program involved. It's a "case by case" review of green home information submitted.
Listed Green promotes innovative and progressive energy saving ideas in a green home or eco-friendly housing development from anywhere in the world, in a very professional, easy-to-navigate internet platform, using a new Green MLS listing format which emphasizes green technologies and sustainable building techniques both new and old.
Listed Green has also made an environmentally responsible choice not to crowd this website with advertising. We chose to focus on education and alliance with like-minded organizations. As a true Green MLS to list new green homes and/or developments for sale/rent, we will always have a core responsibility to focus on making a difference on how we live, what we live in, what we choose to build our living environments with and what impact these products truly have on our planet.

A Bigger
Housing Impact
Seems that some Americans still love to build it big.
This may never change. ListedGreen would like to convince everyone, especially the large luxury home segment, to at least go for LEED certification. You know they will build it big anyway, so why not show them (and everyone else), that homes can indeed be "greener", not just by design, but also by function.
A long list of components can definitely make a difference on how these larger homes' energy costs could be as much as 80 to 90 percent below the average like-sized typically built home. The folks who make the biggest impact, are the ones who decide to go truly eco-friendly.
But there's a lot of argument out there - how a huge home could even be considered green? Obviously, there's quite a bit more resources going toward building such a large, stately estate. Overall, a bigger impact on the environment - or does it really have to be an impact?
One first smart step, would be to utilize recycled building materials throughout. There's a multitude of eco-friendly products available, and since the luxury client shouldn't mind the larger budget for building a bigger home; why not take a giant "green" leap in the right direction? Say they've already decided to build this huge home, but chose to use reclaimed construction materials instead. Then just take it to the next level and go solar.
Not just solar for electric power consumption, but for generating domestic hot water and radiant home heating. Thermal Solar Tubes have definately come a long way since their inception well over a decade ago. Widely used in the UK, Asia and Australia, these UV absorbing glass tubes have substantially dropped in price, making them a wise economic and environmental choice for heating water in the United States.
And what about water?
Reclaiming water should (in our opinion) be mandatory in all new building codes, locally and nationally. Recycling grey water (read story below) is not only easy to accomplish, but much more cost-effective than the monies spent to treat and deliver water to homes everywhere, large or small. The energy it takes to deliver water is a lot more than the average American realizes. We just take it for granted when we turn on the faucet, tub, shower or even flush the toliet, that water will be there, without giving much thought of the sizeable amount of energy dollars (and resources) that is spent to complete such a process.
That's just a start. Many green choices can be implemented in building new green homes and ListedGreen will continue to elevate these "greener" building choices. Since we can't ignore the fact that people will still build big, and we can't force them to build smaller (at least for now), we can at least educate the luxury home builders to do it better.
Making
Green Water from Grey Water
What is "greywater"? Water from your bathtubs, sinks and showers - which is then gathered for landscape watering and other
water saving ideas. Some folks may say greywater is not safe, that it may contain bacteria and certainly could become a health issue. Even so, it seems to be less of a water conservation idea that it probably should be.
Greywater is obviously not even near the quality of water from your tap, but generally a better quality and distinct from "blackwater" (water from your sewage drains).
Not only can a person save thousands of gallons off regular water bills, but the best combined advantage of greywater would be on landscape irrigation. It can benefit most landscape plants because it usually contains helpful soil nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus.
Greywater reclaim systems can range from simple, affordable systems to more costly complex systems. Most complex systems treat the greywater by utilizing tanks and sand filtration methods in order to remove pollutants and then pumped as needed to toilets when flushing is required.
Greywater is also different from water wasted down your drain while you wait for hot water from the tap. This "wasted water" can be very significant in most typical homes, especially when the water heater is located a long
distance from showers/tubs and where no recirculation pump system is installed. Retrieving this "lost" water and using it to water plants can in itself make a huge contribution to
domestic (and commercial) water savings. Listed Green feels it that recirculation pumps for hot water should be mandatory in all homes.
Harvest some water?
Yes, a simple system can consist of gutters, downspouts, and some type of storage tank such as an old wine barrel or even a plastic tank - gathering typical rainwater from nature, instead using the municipal water system.
Nonetheless, efforts must be made quickly, as this valuable natural resource (that is often taken for granted) is becoming increasingly limited in many parts of the country and worldwide. Personally make an effort to remind them how very important water conservation needs to be. If we all make a concerted effort, maybe there will be clean, drinkable water for generations to come. It starts now.
