Heating: This house is heated by a 96% efficient sealed combustion, gas fired, furnace made by Carrier®.
Indoor air quality is never compromised when heating with a sealed combustion boiler and the threat of carbon monoxide emissions within the house is eliminated.
The Munchkin is a smart boiler. Unlike conventional boilers which only have one BTU setting, Munchkin modulates the amount of heat produced and will fire at settings as low as 20,000 BTU's and all the way up to 90,000 BTU's.
Heat is distributed throughout the house with IPEX® radiant under floor tubing. Radiant heating systems heat people and objects in the room rather than the air. This reduces drafts and dust and increases efficiency by approximately 30%.
Cooling: Air conditioning is distributed throughout the house by a Carrier® 96.6% efficient gas fired furnace. The sealed combustion, insulated cabinet and a variable speed ECM motor reduces noise, saves energy, and improves indoor air quality.
Energy Source: Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Energy and GRIDPOINT® Energy Management Appliance - "Photo" means light and "voltaic" means voltage.
PV panels mounted on the south facing roof convert sunlight directly into electricity without creating air or water pollution. On sunny days when we produce more energy that we use, our GRIDPOINT Energy Management System will store the extra electricity for use at night or on cloudy days and sell the excess back to the power company by causing the electrical house meter to spin backwards. We can monitor our energy production and consumption from an LCD screen on the GRIDPOINT appliance or from an internet web page dedicated to our house.
