What Helps Make a Home Green? green home

Listed below are just a few examples:

  • Alternative power systems such as solar, wind and water
  • Unique and sustainable energy efficient building methods
  • Hot water and heating systems such as radiant, solar and solar thermal
  • Grey water recycling and rainwater harvesting
  • Building materials and insulation from recycled content
  • Healthier paints and stains having NO-VOC's (volatile organic compounds)
  • Green Building Certifications - such as individual state run programs and national NAHB and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™

This doesn't mean all homes must have a Building Certification. You can have a very green home without one. But we believe there is tremendous added value from the various programs dictating green attributes and sustainability.

The choice to "be" Green - it's a decision that will impact your health, your surrounding environment and your wallet.

Green is also a global paradigm shift in the real estate marketplace.

Sustainability, energy efficiency, conservation and healthier buildings - all provide tangible cost savings to the Owner.

Sustainability by definition is - "the capacity to endure."
For homes, it means using renewable materials and less of them due to better design - resulting in a reduced impact on the environment. The use of Hemp and Bamboo are good examples of smart, sustainable material choices.
Energy efficient homes will also require less power to heat and cool - direct savings to the homeowner of course but additionally conserving our world's limited natural resources.

Conservation is, where land is concerned, stewardship (supervision) of our rivers and forests - responsible management of our planet overall.

Green is a reflection of a "healthier" home.
Indoor environmental hazards such as radon, mold, lead, VOC's and asbestos can have a significant effect on any individual's health. Mold, for example, can create significant respiratory issues.
Poor indoor air quality = a "sick home" and health problems cost millions to everyone.

Finally, Green ultimately translates to increased value of a home, and, when you finally decide to market your home, generally results in a faster sale.
