What makes it Green:
Howelsen Place features beautiful architecture and received the ACE award for quality construction. In order to achieve the strict sound rating requirements required to achieve this award, the general contractor used a variety of methods to limit sound transmission. First, the residential portion of the project was isolated from the retail spaces by 12" of concrete, providing both sound and fire isolation between the mixed uses. Isolation of sound between adjacent units was achieved by building separate, free-standing demising walls between units, and mineral wool sound insulation was used instead of traditional fiberglass materials. Each Howelsen Place residence virtually stands on its own, without touching the walls of another unit. A complex floor structure was constructed between floors to further enhance the isolation of sound vibrations. To further dampen sound, environmentally-friendly cork flooring was used as an alternative to hardwood, and was installed on top of a foam sound barrier and a sub-floor of gypsum concrete.
