What makes it Green:
In the planning stages all materials were studied and selected for proximity to the site and there sustainability. All mechanicals were designed for the type of construction to be used specifically the HVAC system manuals “J, D, and S”
The construction started with sitting house to capture the pond view and still have two ridge lines 12` E of South for solar panels. Recycling bins for glass, plastic, aluminum and paper were placed on site and all subs and suppliers were instructed to use these bines. In the framing stages we used value engineered framing, which resulted in a very low volume of wood waste and only two 30yds dumpsters one 10yd taken off the job for its entirety.
We used close cell spray foam insulation in the walls 2.5” and between the ceiling joists 2.5” completing the insulation with TAP blow in to R-48 +. The HVAC systems are geothermal located in the condition crawl space. Domestic water is dispersed vie a Mano-block system with water line sized per volume 3/8” and 1/2” PEX .
Domestic hot water is from a 30 vacuum tube solar hot water system w/120gals tank designed for the system located in the crawl space with access form the utility room inside the house. All paints were low or no VCO. All cabinets are free of formaldehyde as well as the engineered hardwood through out the home. All plumbing fixtures and appliances are energy star. All light bulbs are CFL, LED, or Xenon.
THE HOUSE has received its DOE Build America certifcation through a third party HERS rater. It annual heating and cooling bill with heating thermostats set at 68` and cooling set at 75` is $1,500.00 or $131.00 per month or $4.33 per day.
